Our Dog Sadie
We were looking for an adult dog to rescue, not a puppy...but one of my students had a dog who just had a litter out on a farm, and we couldn't resist. As we watched Sadie tackle one of her siblings, and it was love at first sight. The litter on the farm were allowed to roam free, and a few weeks after we adopted Sadie, we found out the rest of her brothers and sisters all died from parvo. We luckily had Sadie vaccinated right away, but it's sad to think the rest of her brothers and sisters didn't make it.
Sadie is the oldest of our current pack, and we have had her all nine years of her life. Sadie is amazingly spry and still has a youthful appearance and demeanor, a true view on what good dog food can do for your dog. She fears nothing except the chirp of the fire alarms when the power goes out. Truly the only thing in life she will back down from.
Sadie's health issues early on were the reason why we started The Animal House in the first place. When we lived on the west coast Sadie would have daily yellow bile vomit and monthly pancreatic episodes, after many trips / tests to numerous vets we were empty handed. After doing just a little research we found it was all dietary, with one food change she was bile and pancreatic episode free to present day. She is the inspiration for the "nutritional" aspect to our store.
Sadie eats the same food as Loki, Holistic Select Grain Free, but Sadie issue is that she does best with oil based foods rather than rendered fats. Like the other dogs, Sadie does have fondness for Barkwheats dog treats. Where Sadie really becomes the challenging dog, is her propensity for destroying dog toys. She can tear through a red Kong in a day, which is abnormal for any dog. This 40 pound stick of dynamite can chew through almost anything. She has done really well with the Planet Dog Orbees (Made in Maine) generally lasts over a year. The big surprise is she now has a squeak toy she can't destroy, the Tuffie Ultimate Ring.
